The crypto market was little changed over the past 24 hours. Total market value moved -0.9% to $2.72 trillion as of 13:00 UTC on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Bitcoin traded at $81,552 (-1.1%) and Ether at $2,392 (-1.2%). 15 of the 50 largest coins were higher, and the median move was -0.8%.
Why is crypto flat today? What the numbers show
- Breadth. There was no clear direction: 15 of 50 large coins rose and 35 fell, so gains in some coins offset losses in others.
- Bitcoin versus altcoins. 31 of the other 49 large coins did better than Bitcoin, a sign of appetite for smaller, riskier assets. Bitcoin dominance stands at 60.1%, and Ether underperformed Bitcoin by 0.1 percentage points.
- Trading activity. 24-hour volume across the market was $63.5 billion, down 6.7% on the previous day. Volume did not change sharply, so the move was not driven by a surge of trading.
- Bitcoin’s 24-hour range. From $81,186 (01:15 UTC) to $82,665 (13:05 UTC, Oct 19), a 1.8% swing. The low came after the high.
