Frequently asked questions
What is open interest?
The total value of all perpetual futures contracts that have been opened and not yet closed. Each contract has a long and a short side, so open interest measures how much leveraged exposure exists, not which direction it points.
What is the long/short ratio?
On Binance, the account long/short ratio compares the share of accounts holding a net long position with those holding a net short position. The top-trader ratio does the same for the largest accounts, weighted by position size.
What is the taker buy/sell ratio?
It compares the volume of market orders that bought with the volume that sold. Above 1 means buyers were more aggressive that day; below 1 means sellers were.
Does rising open interest mean prices will rise?
No. Rising open interest only means more leverage. If price rises with it, longs are adding; if price falls with it, shorts are adding. High leverage makes sharp moves in either direction more likely.
