Luxor Technology, a Seattle-based company built around Bitcoin mining, has closed a $16 million strategic round to expand into AI computing power, Decrypt reported on October 27, 2026. CMT Digital, the venture arm of Chicago’s CMT Group, led the raise.

Mining-hardware makers Canaan and MicroBT joined the round alongside Halo, Steelhead and angel investors, according to Decrypt. Cryptobriefing reported the same backer list and put the announcement date at October 27, 2026.

Key facts

  • Luxor raised $16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital, with Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and angels participating (Decrypt).
  • The raise followed the September 24, 2026 launch of Luxor AI, the segment extending Luxor’s mining stack into AI and high-performance computing (Cryptobriefing).
  • Luxor’s hardware desk has traded $1 billion of mining ASICs, and its energy arm services more than 75 megawatts of load across two U.S. grid regions (Decrypt).
  • Its cloud platform had processed 1.8 million workloads so far this year as of September (Decrypt).
  • The round carried no token launch or new crypto offering (Cryptobriefing).

Where the money goes

Luxor said the capital will scale its cloud platform, provide working capital for its AI hardware business, grow its compute-derivatives trading and fund engineering and go-to-market hires, per Decrypt. Cryptobriefing named the three target areas as Tenki Cloud, which Luxor describes as an agentic cloud platform; its AI hardware brokerage; and its compute-derivatives desk.

The over-the-counter desk already offers cash-settled options, forwards and backstops on compute-rental indexes, letting AI computing power be priced and hedged. Luxor’s chief executive and co-founder, Nick Hansen, framed the shift as a convergence: the miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now serving AI.

Luxor has not left mining behind. Cryptobriefing reported that the company still runs an active Bitcoin mining pool, recently posting a hashrate of roughly 43.7 EH, and that it opened a new office in San Francisco. It also reported that Luxor widened its hardware trading to include GPUs in December 2025.

Why it matters

Canaan and MicroBT sell Bitcoin mining machines, so backing a customer’s AI expansion gives both hardware makers exposure to where compute demand is heading. The deal also fits a wider pattern: Bitcoin miners have been repurposing power and sites for AI, with some signing billion-dollar hyperscaler deals and others selling Bitcoin to fund the shift. VanEck and Bernstein analysts have described miners as unlikely power brokers in the AI race because of their access to electricity and land that data centers need, Decrypt reported. Luxor’s operating history in energy and hardware is the asset it is now trying to port into that market.

What to watch

Luxor has not disclosed how quickly it expects the new capital to translate into compute-derivatives volume or cloud capacity, and neither report gives a timeline. Watch for disclosure on Tenki Cloud usage and any expansion of the OTC desk’s index products as the practical measure of whether the pivot scales.
