Google brings Gemini Spark to Mac, adds real-time tracking and app integrations

Google on Wednesday announced that Gemini Spark, its agentic AI assistant capable of managing digital tasks, is now available on Mac through the existing Gemini desktop app. The rollout includes several new features, most notably real-time tracking of events and expanded integrations with Google Keep, Google Tasks, and third-party services such as Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals.

Google has launched Gemini Spark, its agentic AI assistant, on Mac through the existing Gemini desktop app. The update adds real-time tracking for sports, stocks, and news, along with integrations for Google Keep, Google Tasks, and third-party services like Canva, Dropbox, and OpenTable. The beta is currently available only to Google One AI Premium subscribers in the US.

The macOS launch positions Gemini Spark to compete directly with desktop AI agents like Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot, and others. Unlike earlier mobile-only iterations, the Mac version can work directly with files on the computer, and Google says users will soon be able to assign multi-step tasks from their phones — such as asking the desktop agent to pull information from a file stored on the Mac.

Real-time tracking and expanded integrations

One of the more practical additions is Gemini Spark’s ability to track and react to events in real time. Google says this will improve performance for tasks that involve monitoring sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, social media feeds, online shopping, and weather. For example, Spark could notify a user when a stock price hits a certain threshold or when a favorite team scores.

The integration with Google Keep and Google Tasks addresses a notable gap in the initial launch. When Spark debuted last month, the lack of Keep support was flagged as a significant frustration — short lists and notes logically belong in a notes app rather than in Google Docs, which is overkill for a simple packing list. Google has now rectified that, allowing Spark to create and manage notes and tasks directly within those apps.

Third-party app integrations further expand Spark’s utility. Users can now ask Spark to reserve a table at a restaurant via OpenTable, order weekly groceries through Instacart, design flyers in Canva, or book apartment tours on Zillow Rentals — all from within the Gemini interface.

Custom MCP support and availability

Google is also rolling out support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets users connect their preferred apps directly into Spark to build a more personalized assistant. This is a step toward making Spark adaptable to individual workflows rather than offering a one-size-fits-all set of integrations.

Gemini Spark for macOS is currently in beta and available only to Google One AI Premium subscribers in the United States. Google has not announced a timeline for broader availability or pricing changes.
