About 1.23 million ETH, valued at close to $2.8 billion, was sitting in Ethereum’s staking entry queue, while only 1,682 ETH was lined up to withdraw, AMBCrypto reported, citing ValidatorQueue data. New depositors faced an estimated wait of roughly 21 days and 16 hours to have their ETH activated.

The imbalance between the two queues suggests more holders wanted to secure the network, which pays rewards, than wanted to recover their coins. Even so, ETH was trading at $2,244.74 at press time, down 5.2% over the week, and the gain over the prior 24 hours was minimal, according to the AMBCrypto report.

Key facts

  • Roughly 1.23 million ETH, about $2.8 billion, was queued to stake, with an estimated activation wait of about 21 days and 16 hours.
  • Only 1,682 ETH was waiting to unstake, a queue with an estimated wait of about one day, plus a 7.1-day sweep delay before withdrawals reach wallets.
  • Total staked ETH rose from about 41.5 million in August to 44.2 million by late October, lifting the staked share of circulating supply from around 34% to 36.19%.
  • The number of active validators fell from about 910,000 in September to nearly 815,000.
  • The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 30, signalling fear among market participants.

What the queue history shows

The entry backlog was already shrinking before the latest snapshot. Between August and October, the amount of ETH waiting to stake fell from roughly 2.4 million to 1.2 million, and the entry waiting period shortened from about 43 days to 22 days. Over the same stretch, the exit queue spiked to roughly 550,000 ETH in early October before fading to negligible levels by month end.

Read together, those two lines describe a staking system that processed a burst of withdrawals and is now absorbing a heavier inflow than outflow. For validators already in the set, the practical consequence is a larger pool competing for the same reward flow, while the shrinking validator count points to consolidation among operators. The AMBCrypto report does not give a reward-rate figure.

Price, sentiment and ETF flows cloud the staking signal

Demand to stake has not translated into a stronger market. AMBCrypto noted that the relative strength index sat well below neutral, consistent with a bearish trend. It also pointed to its own earlier report that total assets under management across Ethereum ETFs had fallen to $14.27 billion, with cumulative net inflows down to $12.55 billion.

The report further cited repeated security breaches, an upcoming Federal Reserve meeting and uncertainty around the U.S. midterm elections as factors complicating the bullish reading from the queues. Readers weighing the staking data against the price action should treat the outlook as uncertain; this article is not financial advice, and crypto markets are volatile.

Why it matters

A rising staked share means a larger portion of ETH is locked up securing the network rather than sitting on exchanges or in wallets ready to be sold, which thins the supply that can respond to a price move. The current proportion of 36.19% is higher than the roughly 34% seen in August, so the shift is real but gradual rather than abrupt. Anyone planning to stake now faces a three-week wait, while those leaving can expect their ETH back far sooner.

What to watch

The immediate tests are the Federal Reserve meeting and the U.S. midterm elections flagged in the report, both of which can move risk appetite. On the network side, watch whether the entry queue keeps shrinking from 1.23 million ETH and whether the validator count continues its decline from roughly 815,000.
