CME Group added Uniswap [UNI] and Micro UNI futures to its crypto derivatives lineup, giving institutional traders regulated contracts in two sizes with around-the-clock access, according to Ambcrypto. The filing follows the exchange operator’s expansion beyond established crypto assets into decentralized finance tokens.
The listing landed alongside Arkham findings that venture capital firm a16z controlled approximately 64 million UNI, valued near $468.5 million and equal to roughly 10% of Uniswap’s circulating supply, Ambcrypto reported. Arkham attributed the tokens to 91 wallets linked to the firm and did not present evidence that a16z had started any substantial selling.

Key facts
- CME launched Uniswap and Micro UNI futures with two contract sizes and round-the-clock trading.
- Arkham data put a16z’s UNI holdings at about 64 million tokens, worth around $468.5 million, or roughly 10% of circulating supply across 91 wallets.
- CryptoQuant showed UNI exchange reserves falling 3.32% in a day to roughly $808.55 million.
- UNI traded near $7.17, below its 50-day EMA of $7.307, after retreating from September highs above $10.
- The DMI reading favored sellers, with the negative directional indicator at 23.34 against the positive at 13.86, and ADX at 30.97.
Reserves slip while taker buyers lead
CryptoQuant’s exchange reserve series showed the dollar value of UNI held on exchanges dropping 3.32% in a single day to about $808.55 million. Ambcrypto noted that price movement alone can shift that valuation, so the decline does not by itself prove withdrawals.
Spot Taker CVD on Uniswap pointed the other way, with taker buys outpacing taker sells and aggressive market orders skewing toward buyers during the period measured. That buying pressure appeared even as the token worked through a correction from its September peak above $10.

Price holds the $7 zone below the 50-day EMA
On the daily chart, UNI consolidated inside a Fair Value Gap with buyers defending the $7 area, trading around $7.17 at the time of the report. The 50-day EMA at $7.307 sat above the price and limited recovery attempts.
Directional indicators reinforced the cautious tone: the negative directional indicator at 23.34 led the positive reading of 13.86, and an ADX of 30.97 indicated a strong trend behind the bearish bias. Ambcrypto framed a close above the 50-day EMA as the trigger that could support a move toward $8 and then $9, while warning that the current readings argue for patience until that reclaim happens.
Why it matters
Regulated futures give funds a way to take or hedge Uniswap exposure without holding the token directly, a route that previously existed only for a small set of large-cap cryptocurrencies. The ownership data adds a second consideration: a single venture firm controls a large enough slice of circulating UNI that its actions are a structural factor for the market, not a footnote. Together, the derivatives listing and the concentration figures change how institutional readers assess UNI’s liquidity and float.
What to watch
The immediate signal is whether UNI can close above the 50-day EMA at $7.307, which Ambcrypto tied to a possible push toward $8. On the derivatives side, watching whether CME open interest builds will show whether institutions are using the new contracts. This is not financial advice; crypto markets are volatile and price outcomes are uncertain.
