Bitcoin traded below $82,000 into Friday’s Wall Street open, a day after losing 3.2% and briefly slipping under $81,000, Cointelegraph reported from Friday’s Asia session. The dip bottomed at $80,840 on Bitstamp, per TradingView data cited in the report.

The move tracked renewed weakness in technology stocks, where concerns about AI infrastructure financing resurfaced. Neocloud provider CoreWeave fell to its lowest level since May 2025, down 15.5% week to date as of the close of Thursday’s US session, after Bernstein cut its price target from $74 to $51.

Key facts

  • BTC/USD fell 3.2% on Thursday and hit $80,840 on Bitstamp before stabilizing below $82,000.
  • CoreWeave dropped 15.5% week to date, its lowest since May 2025, after Bernstein lowered its target to $51 from $74.
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $635 million in net outflows on Thursday, the biggest single day since late June.
  • Cross-crypto liquidations reached $336 million over 24 hours to noon UTC, including $281 million of longs.
  • South Korea’s KOSPI opened at 5,402 points and fell as low as 5,305 points, its weakest since late July, before closing 0.3% higher.

Credit stress in neoclouds spreads to equities

QCP Capital framed the selling as a knock-on effect from the financing side of the AI buildout. In analysis quoted by Cointelegraph, the crypto trading company said credit stress spreading through neocloud infrastructure had pulled down equity markets more widely, as institutional investors weighed capital expenditure commitments against profitability at technology firms that depend on AI infrastructure expansion.

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang, speaking to CNBC on Thursday, described a scarcity of capital for neocloud buildouts, saying demand for capital exceeded its availability. QCP Capital also said capital expenditure figures, including those from Tesla, reinforced worries that higher financing costs would slow the pace of AI infrastructure construction and trim expected returns on capital-intensive projects.

Bitcoin’s retreat paired with pressure across Asian equities on Friday. The KOSPI Composite Index opened at 5,402 points before falling to 5,305 points, its lowest since late July, and finished the session up 0.3%.

ETF outflows and liquidations follow the price

Fund flows responded sharply to the drop inside Bitcoin’s recent $80,000 to $87,000 range. Thursday’s $635 million in net outflows from US spot Bitcoin ETFs marked the largest single-day drawdown since late June, according to the report. CoinGlass data cited by Cointelegraph showed $336 million in cross-crypto liquidations over 24 hours to noon UTC, of which $281 million were long positions — traders positioned for upside when price moved back toward the bottom of the range.

Why it matters

Bitcoin has spent recent sessions oscillating between $80,000 and $87,000, and the latest leg lower shows how quickly crypto flows now react to stress in AI-linked equities. ETF holders and leveraged long traders carry the most immediate exposure: a single day of ETF redemptions on this scale removes buying support, while liquidation clusters near the range floor can amplify moves in either direction. Coming after a period in which AI capital spending was treated as a tailwind for risk assets, the shift in tone is notable.

What to watch

The next signals are whether US spot Bitcoin ETFs return to net inflows after Thursday’s $635 million exit, and whether CoreWeave and other AI infrastructure names stabilize or extend losses. The $80,000 level at the base of the current range remains the line that has triggered the most recent liquidation activity.
